Survey Highlights
This survey sought to explore understanding and perceptions of the use of AI in the music industry, and protections that should be in place for artists and producers. Participants were asked for their views on issues ranging from on the use by AI firms of creators’ work to the deepfake images of artists like Taylor Swift.
Some key findings include:
Four out of five (80%) of people agree the law should stop an artist’s music being used to train an AI application without their knowledge or permission.
An overwhelming 77% agree AI-generated music that fails to acknowledge the creator of the original music amounts to theft.
83% of UK adults agree that a music artist’s creative “personality” should be protected in law against being copied using AI, effectively protecting creators from the rise of deepfakes.
Four out of five (83%) people agree that if AI has been used to generate a song it must be clearly labelled.
